NORTH PORT, Fla. (July 30, 2026). Sarasota resident Dean Abrams, independent candidate for Governor, is attending the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce Hob Nob tonight, his third chamber candidate event in three days.
North Port is one of the fastest-growing cities in Florida and sits squarely in the path of the state's hardest affordability questions: rising homeowners insurance, new-construction HOA and CDD fees, hurricane recovery, and water and road capacity that has not kept pace with growth.
"Southwest Florida is home for me. People here rebuilt after Ian and then watched their insurance premiums climb anyway," said Abrams. "Growth should pay for itself. It should not be paid for by the families who were already here."
Abrams will be speaking with local business owners and residents about insurance reform, growth management, and his plan to publish every state agency's performance in plain language.
