SARASOTA, Fla. (July 7, 2026). Six weeks after Meta took down his accounts, independent gubernatorial candidate Dean Abrams still cannot get his identity verified on Facebook or Instagram, and still cannot run a political ad on either platform.
Abrams has been a qualified candidate on the November ballot since June 11. In that time he has:
- Submitted his government ID and biometric face scans to Meta multiple times
- Appealed the Instagram suspension, which allowed the Instagram account with restrictions
- Opened a new Facebook account that has repeatedly failed Meta's verification
Meta has not told the campaign what is wrong or how to fix it. On TikTok, which bans political ads, the campaign's organic reach remains restricted.
"Every week Meta sits on this is a week Florida voters do not hear from a candidate who is on their ballot," said Abrams. "I am asking Meta for one thing: a clear answer and a path to verification, the same as any other candidate gets."
Vote-by-mail ballots begin going out in late September. The campaign continues to document each step and pursue reinstatement.
