SARASOTA, Fla. (July 4, 2026). On the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, gubernatorial candidate Dean Abrams explained why he chose to run for Governor of Florida with No Party Affiliation.
Abrams said the two-party system has become a contest of party loyalty in which elected officials answer first to party leadership, primary voters, and donors, and only then to the people they represent. Florida's affordability crisis in insurance and housing has grown under both parties' watch.
"The signers in 1776 pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to the people, not to a party," said Abrams. "I am running independent because the job of a governor is to serve Floridians. When party loyalty and the public interest conflict, the public should win every time."
Abrams evaluates every proposal on one test: is it constitutional, and does it serve ordinary people rather than the powerful? He said that test does not change based on which party benefits.
More than 3.3 million Floridians are registered with No Party Affiliation.
