Meta Deletes Abrams Campaign Facebook Account Days After Launch

· For immediate release

SARASOTA, Fla. (June 2, 2026). Meta has deleted the Facebook account of independent gubernatorial candidate Dean Abrams, nine days after he announced his campaign. His Instagram account remains suspended.

The timeline:

  • May 24: Abrams announces his candidacy.
  • May 25: Facebook and Instagram are taken down after Abrams submits government ID and biometric verification that Meta requested.
  • June 1 and 2: Abrams appeals the Instagram suspension, submitting face scans both days.
  • June 2: Meta deletes the Facebook account after a further face scan.

Meta has not given the campaign a specific policy reason for either action.

"I did exactly what Meta asked. I gave them my ID and scanned my face, and they deleted the account anyway," said Abrams. "A candidate for governor should not need a tech company's permission to talk to voters."

Facebook and Instagram are the largest social platforms used by Florida voters. The campaign is preserving screenshots of each step and will continue to pursue reinstatement.
